Market Update (Q3 2023): In the wake of surging consumer demand and supply chain distruptions in 2021, wholesalers placed heavy order volumes with vendors. By the end of 2022, distributors and retailers had the longest supply of goods in stock in the U.S. since World War II. Just as inventory was building up, inflation and a reduction in stimulus checks resulted in falling consumer demand.
The combination of excess supply and declining demand has resulted in falling asset liquidation prices, particularly for discretionary goods. Based on the data we are seeing, the supply and demand imbalance is likely to last until Q1 2024.
