Tiger Group Launches New GearXpres Marketplace for Broadcast, Film and Other Equipment

–Industry veteran Chris Thompson to oversee June 30 auction of professional equipment from Sony and other leading manufacturers

SANTA FE SPRINGS, Calif., June 17, 2015 /PRNewswire/—Tiger Group’s Remarketing Services division has announced the creation of GearXpres, an auction marketplace dedicated to offering professional quality broadcast, film and A/V equipment under the direction of industry veteran Chris Thompson.

GearXpres kicks off on June 30 with an online auction of factory refurbished, new, and open box professional equipment, including over $3 million of Sony gear, as well as equipment from Avid, Nvidia, HP, AJA, Cine-Tel, Apple, Panasonic, Newtek, and JVC. Up for sale are digital cinema and broadcast cameras, field and studio decks, wireless mic systems, security systems, teleconference, projection screens, monitors and more. Many of the Sony products—purchased directly from the manufacturer — will be in-box with warranties.

Thompson, who will oversee the auction, joins Tiger Group with more than 30 years of senior executive experience in broadcast and film equipment rentals and sales. He has worked with companies like Avid Technologies and Sony to introduce three of the most widely used broadcast acquisition technologies in the world.

Thompson served as president and CEO of WVI from 1999 to 2007, building it into the largest production and post-production rental company in the country. In March 2007, he led the acquisition of WVI by Telecorps Holdings, Inc., and was named Telecorps’ president and CEO. Thompson holds a Bachelor’s degree in Cinema from the University of Southern California, and has done masterwork and lecturing in cinema at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles.

GearXpres is a marketplace to connect purchasers with manufacturers, rental companies and anyone else with excess inventory,” he said. “We will hold up to six auctions each year, aggregating excess inventory—including production, post production and A/V gear — from a variety of sources.

Online bidding for the equipment will commence June 23 at www.SoldTiger.com and will close in rapid succession, live auction style, on June 30 beginning at 10:30 a.m. (PT). Previews of the various assets being offered will be held June 29 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (PT) at the American Relocation & Logistics facility located at 13545 Larwin Circle, Santa Fe Springs, Calif.

Surveillance and security systems include indoor and ruggedized outdoor bullet and fixed cameras and accessories, and network pan, tilt, zoom (PTZ) and IP hybrid cameras, including Sony E, V and X series. NSR HD Network Surveillance servers will also be available.

Teleconference and presentation equipment includes network, HD, and rapid PTZ cameras. Laser and other projection equipment to be offered include XGA through WUXGA projectors and lenses, and home theater, meeting, LCD and other projectors. Batteries, microphones, monitors, hard drives and memory card storage, monitors, audio and other accessories will also be up for bid.
